(2013) What is more decadent than accumulating wealth? Collecting the lives of the wealthy. This “study of excess” uses symbols of sacrilege to juxtapose beauty and horror in a Gothic / Art Deco style. The face of "Decadence" is modeled after Bernini's "Ecstasy of St. Teresa", who allegedly experienced religious ecstasy in an encounter with the angel; an expression of obvious sexual climax. In literary terms, her character bridges points of Genesis, Psalms, Leviticus, and Revelation: The Sword of Expulsion (Genesis 3:24), the cup that runneth over (Psalm 23:5), the forbidden act of drinking blood (Leviticus 17:14), and as the reigning Whore of Babylon (Revelation 17:4), in certain circles, she ironically represents the Catholic Church.
"Holy water cannot help you now
Thousand armies couldn't keep me out
I don't want your money
I don't want your crown
See I've come to burn your kingdom down."
-- Seven Devils, Florence + The Machine
